Keep in mind that barring armed revolt, the next US President will be Hillary Clinton, with a solid majority in both Houses of Congress.

Care to guess what her top domestic priority will be?

Have a look at the Christmas tree her working group produced last time around and one of the signature characteristics is that there was something in there for everyone in the current system, including insurance carriers, hospital chains, HMOs, etc.

Deal with it: National-level electronic health records are going to be part of the single-payer system in five years. Like Social Security, individual compliance will not be optional.
