More Protocols Out There
I agree that protocol is a big part of the "access
virtualization" picture. There are more protocols out there
though:

ICA - you already listed this one but there's also PortICA
which Citrix uses for XenDesktop. It's a ground up re-write
of ICA with less features (no WAN acceleration for
instance).

RDP - you already listed this as well. There are RDP clients
for Linux and Mac as well. There are also extensions to
RDP from some of the thin client providers such as Wyse
TCX. Recently the RDP header became more open so 3rd
parties can do WAN acceleration for it.

HP RGS - A nice protocol for video intensive applications.

I believe the questions you put out there are good. It will
at least get the conversation started and the vendor you're
talking to can most likely lead you through other
discussions about what you will be displaying, what the
user experience should be like, where they will be
accessing from, security, integration, etc.
