Honestly it has become a marketing buzzword
It is hard for me to think of virtualization because every vendor is trying to make the word "virtualization" mean "their product". Digital technolgy is about 2 things, signals and their timing. If you have an interface that allows you to handle signals and get the signals timing correct you have just "virtualized" some form of digital technology. I like to think that virtual technology is technology that abstracts signals and signal timing into some form of human understanding. I have confidence that by the time the technology marketers get done, virtualization will be as meaningless as "Cloud Computing" or an OS that "just" works.
