The term you are looking for is "Brainwashing"
I?m not sure why conference directors think that people enjoy walking into a darkened room, facing disorienting flashing lights coming from the front of the room, watching company ads and customer profiles on overhead videos combined with extremely loud, unpleasant, pulsing music.

It sounds much like the descriptions of what is commonly known as brainwashing, a technique employed to make someone beleieve something that is not true.

So I'm sure they where also shouting along with the lights and music that "VMware is the best".
