Just FYI - VMware ESX doesn't run "on" Linux
The hypervisor in VWware's ESX enterprise product does not run on top of Linux. The Hypervisor/OS/ kernel is created solely by VMware. There is a Linux (Red Hat based) "Service Console" that runs as a virtual machine on top of the VMware hypervisor and it can interact with the VMware kernel. This is the interface seen be a user on an ESX host which would lead one to believe the host is Linux, but Linux is not the OS running the hardware.

4 years ago the VMware hypervisor DID run on top of Linux, but no more. Note that VMware Workstation and Player products to work on top of a Linux OS, but in the context of this article, no. Although perhaps I am misreading the last paragraph. Thanks for the article!
