get facts straight...BD is superior
First of all, you need to get your facts straight. Capacity and bandwidth wise, BD's are vastly superior to HDDVD's. BD= 25, 50, and 100GB versions all of which support 24 bit bandwidth for the entire movie. HDDVD= 15, 30, and 45GB versions none of which support 24bit bandwidth. The notion that one player can be retrofitted to make it compatible is untrue. BD's, HDDVD's, and DVD's all use a completely different laser- BD's= blue laser, HDDVD's= purple, and DVD's=red. This is what makes the storage capacities all different as each color of light has a specific size that the beam can be focused to in order to read data. The blue laser has the smallest possible focal point due to the laws of physics and the wavelengths of each color. Thus, BD's have higher capacities.

I build computers, computer systems, home theaters for a living...custom systems for the individual's needs. All of my customers over the last year have wanted Blu-ray players and burners in their systems. I have not sold one single HDDVD player or buner in over 300 customers over the past year.

Finally, I must say that I have seen 2 different movies in each format on the same 60" 1080p widescreen TV- "300" and "Harry Potter and The Order". I can say without hesitation that the picture quality and movie experience was superior with Blu-ray- and yes I watched each movie twice all the way through. While it is true that the total sales for both HD formats is nowhere near the level of traditional DVD, things nearly always occur in a small test market/experiment before they reach the level of "adopted technology." In my experience, it is extremely rare to have the experiment go one way and the full scale project go completely opposite.
