It is just another harmful patent
Anyone doing serious programming knows how to work around low memory situations. However, in non-mission-critical desktop programming it is cheaper to ignore this problem than try to implement something addressing this issue.
In any case this is just another obvious patent that is great for lawyers and not useful for technology. I remember very similar technique of extra buffers that was described in a windows programming book maybe 10 or 15 years ago.
