Information warfare
These tactics positively raise the noise level but I'm not sure they're making converts on either side of the political isle. I also believe the internet noise is also contributing to the general lack of civility in our social dialog as well.

To be sure politics and civil discussion have always been tentative companions but I've never seen anything like the vitriol, name calling and outright hatred I see in our political process today. Not in my lifetime and my parents claim not in theirs, either.

And I'm not sure there are any easy answers this time. I think it's a hate-fest that's going to escalate until it spills over to meatspace violence.
