Totally agreed. I'm sick and tired of people saying these things:

-"I already have a firewall, so I don't need an antivirus."

-"I already have an antivirus, so I turned off UAC."

-And along with turning off antivirus: "Nothing is eating up my CPU, therefore I don't have any malware." Never mind that malware hasn't been programmed to eat up CPU cycles for ages now that it's used for profit.

Frankly, too many people do not realize that security is defense in depth, and that you should not disable one security measure just because the other security measures seem to be working fine.

But it happens all too often.

IMHO, ZDNet readers need to be reminded of this every so often. They need to know that it is not a good idea to relax security elsewhere just because it's strong in a couple places.
