Not surprising...
A lot of people seem to use Skype without caring how it works or who makes it.

Skype was originally made by the same shady people who made Kazaa, before they sold to eBay. Skype is unlike other VoIP services in that it uses completely proprietary protocols, to lock-out interopability with their competitors, even though it uses a peer-to-peer model to leech off its own users (unlike most VoIP providers, who use client-server models).

If you want backdoor-free communications, choose one of the many SIP-based providers.
