iPhone 3G SMS charges bypassed using AOL Instant Messenger

"AOL IM is not SMS": This is an important thing to note.

One is not bypassing anything by using a "substitute". SMS message fees are outrageously high and highly profitable for phone companies. Just because people can use something else that provides a similar function doesn't mean it is a problem for Apple or AT&T.
