Pricing and brands.
Both Intel and AMD are brands, names consumers choose.

Not all competition is about cheapest.

The problem for AMD might be that Intel's product line is now bringing back customers who or which had left.

Does AMD track the market for each chip type? Some are more price sensitive than others, so where AMD is gaining and losing is important.

AMD could increase shipments and still have lower profits if it is most competitive in the lowest cost chips, which might be the ones most likely to respond primarily to pricing.

Curious.
