About a month ago, someone on your site posted a Gartner poll where something like 68% of the respondents stated they were going to implement large projects and on another question about budget, about 65% expected their budget to stay the same, or decrease.

So, to answer your questions "Is this what our projects are leading towards? People getting ill and so tired they will go anywhere to get a break? "

Yes.

And whenever I look at those SOA and SAP posts and ones where someone advocates getting rid of working legacy systems to implement essentially the exact same services on newer systems using the latest software paradigm, I think about how often my life was turned into a living heck based on that exact reasoning. New projects are generally just piled onto existing work and there is no such thing as a 20% of an Sysadmin assigned to a project. Everyone expects 100%. You will be immediately available. You will work on their work first. Even if the "their" in this case is 4 different projects.

That blog link you posted is nothing exceptional. Was the norm everywhere I worked until the current job.
