Early last summer I commented re BYD on your other blog:

"I wonder if they are having trouble with the user interface?...It may be that that the time and cost of making SAP more user-friendly and flexible is making them think again about the whole project."

You replied at the time that the interface was just a layer that could be easily swapped out.

Not a trivial excercise, unfortunately, when you are trying to give powerful SAP functionality to the masses.

And the more re-engineering work to fix issues such as SaaS the more complex the inter-layer interfacing and testing becomes, changing many of the original design considerations.

As you've said previously, quoting Jakob Nielson of Microsoft, "There is a curious paradox about design simplicity - it isn't that simple."
