Certification Will Never Be Enough
When you had your original post on this topic,
I posted my personal thoughts (not Gartner
position) on the Gartner Blog Network
(http://blogs.gartner.com/jim_holincheck/2009/0
1/26/certification-of-implementation-
consultants/). This is a multi-faceted issue.
Skills are only one part of the equation
related to successful implementation. Vendors,
including SAP, have had certification programs
for years and it has not had a significant
impact on the success rates of project IMHO.
You could argue that the programs could be
improved, but it is never going to be enough.
Project success comes down to selecting the
right individuals (internally and externally)
with the right competencies that will mesh as a
team in a shared culture to deliver the
project. Certification can tell you a little
bit about the right competencies, but it is far
from a complete picture.
