. . . and by "browser rivals" you really mean
Opera, who has been whimpering and whining the
whole time. A browser that barely appears on
anybody's charts, but still retains a cult
following.

I think Microsoft is improving with IE7 and
IE8, although it's still tough to get people
off IE6. It still has a ways to go, though.

Competition is definitely a good thing. IE6
pretty much proved that nothing happens when
somebody has a monopoly position.
