Completely Disagree with Gartner's Recommendations...
I would be skipping Vista at this point, and aborting all Vista deployment plans. Why? Simple...

Any IT staff that is deploying Vista en mass to their enterprises bought it with Volume Licensing, which means they probably bought it with Software Assurance... better to use those support contracts for Windows 7 support than Vista AND Windows 7.

Any app that will run on Vista will run on Windows 7 with extremely limited exceptions, and driver support is already way beyond what it was at the Vista launch and Vista drivers are available in a pinch. So take the time, learn 7, build stable 7 images now and move your enterprise forward not back! Invest your support costs in training for 7's UI rather than playing Mr. Fix-It with Vista.

If you're still on XP, definitely plan on switching to Windows 7 over the next year. There's a LOT of benefits, and XP support isn't going to get any better. Those of us holding on to XP have dragged it along far enough.

I love though, how Gartner makes it sound like it's such a reluctant upgrade while everyone else is loving it. More importantly, those of us that use it are largely calling it Windows done right... not just Vista done right.
