I have doubts
"Is there anyone who still doubts that Microsoft?s 7E plan was a stroke of diabolical genius, and designed to force the Commission?s hand ? and had nothing to do with Microsoft wanting to do the ?right? thing?" What is comes down to is simply this, Opera asked for a unbundled IE version. MS tried to head off the judgement against them by complying with Opera. MS was not trying to punish the EU or do a "well I will show them" type thing, no it did exactly what Opera asked them to do.

"Opera requests the Commission to implement two remedies to Microsoft?s abusive actions. First, it requests the Commission to obligate Microsoft to unbundle Internet Explorer from Windows" (MS Did this exactly liked they asked) "and/or carry alternative browsers pre-installed on the desktop. Second, it asks the European Commission to require Microsoft to follow fundamental and open Web standards accepted by the Web-authoring communities." IE8 is more standands compliant and even passes the Acid2 test. http://www.opera.com/press/releases/2007/12/13/

How did MS force anyones hand when it did exactly what it was asked?

"PC makers hated Microsoft?s Windows 7E plan. The EC hated it. European consumers, as soon as they found out the new hoops they had to jump through to get on the Internet, were going to hate it." Then PC makers should ask Opera what it was thinking when it asked MS to remove it. Why is MS taking this heat when it was Opera that requested it?
