A way forward for MSFT
MSFT should explicitly recognize the failure of Vista by offering a no charge upgrade to Win7.

This move would be a PR plus. Any lost revenue on upgrade charges would be minimal. Past history has shown that upgrade revenue is not great when a new OS is introduced.

MSFT would save substantial costs by only supporting one client OS going forward.

If Vista had been any other consumer product except software the government would have recalled it as being totally unsafe.
