RE: Report: Microsoft chooses ad agency for Pink phone campaign
To me, I see the obvious parallel between the new Zune HD and the IPod Touch, and it seems obvious that if Microsoft wants to compete with the in-demand phones of today, taking the Zune HD platform to the mobile-phone is the obvious choice. No-one wants to carry around both a smart-phone and a separate music player; yet so far, I have seen nothing besides the IPhone that provides a truly good user experience combining both into one. Microsoft *could* do it... I wait with baited breath to see if they do.

The next step, if they did, would be to release it through Verizon. As a Verizon customer, I'm thrilled with my service, but frustrated that every phone I've ever gotten from them has been handicapped in some way. And they never go back and fix it, they just release a new set of phones, each one seeming to be slightly better than the last, but each crippled in some mind-numbingly new way. And I sit jealous of owners of practically the same phone from some other provider, that is worlds better in terms of the capability of the phone; but I wouldn't switch to that vendor in a million years and give up the reliable *everywhere* service of Verizon.

So if MS where to take the Zune HD, add Windows Mobile 7 capability, have the ability to download - and create - Zune Apps, ensure the phone has all the obvious necessities (GPS, BlueTooth, WiFi, 3G, Accelerometer, the ability to plug a headphone in without blocking the only available port to charge the unit), and ensure that the phone was released fully unencumbered by rediculous blocks (like forcing the GPS to work only with VZ Navigator), and make Verizon the exclusive provider in the US, I think they would have an absolute winner that would truly compete favorably with the iPhone. Otherwise, why bother.
