Access picture handing is fixed
I?ve had 12 and 15 year long time clients of mine switch to new version of word and they absolutely loved the ribbon. It take less then an hour to get up to speed. Golly, are these users that bad? And, if you minimize the ribbon, you wind up with more screen space then you had before. In fact the new office ribbon really reduces the clutter and the old tired interface has simply outlived its usefulness. 15 years ago we had 300 options, now there is more then 1500. simple old menu bars don't work anymore. Clippy was the thing supposed to help with all these features (a helper that looks over your sholder). The ribbon was the breakthrough in the user interface that really solved this usability problem.

As for outlook, the other poster pointed you out on this issue.

As for picture handling in access 2007, they did introduce a new picture control, and it?s absolutely fantastic. It not only allows you to bind the control to column with a picture in it, you can even bind the control to a field that represents a path name to a picture on the hard disk. Even more amazing is you can now use the picture control in a continuous form. That means you can build web like interfaces or even have a list of customers their name, their country, and beside the country you can display a graphic of their country flag. Or you can display a picture of a part beside a part number now.

What?s even more amazing the above, is the above works with not writing one line of code!

On top of that, the new picture control does NOT cause any bloating or increase in file size like the old picture control did.

So, it is very cool that you can now use path names to picture even in a continuous form.

Sounds to me like you complaining here, but much of it is due to lack of product knowledge of what?s been changed.
