Windows 8 features
I think Windows 8 should be developed along the lines of MED-V, and should use virtualization to eliminate most application compatibility and other issues people have upgrading their OSs. If virtualization could also be used to ensure driver compatibility, even when the kernel has been significantly changed, that would be a great thing. It would also be great if virtualization could be used to create a quarantined section of Windows, where questionable applications could be downloaded into automatically or deliberately. Maybe services could be used to examine applications in the quarantined area continually, and once a program becomes recognized as being safe, it could be transferred to the general OS area. If an infection is found in the quarantined area, the area could be flushed.

While MS has done a great job in the area of design in Windows 7, I think it still has far to go. Windows is still conservative in the area of design aesthetics. In addition, the more gorgeous MS makes Windows and Windows applications, the more money MS makes, and the more users become emotionally tied to its products. The fact that Apple is not breaking a sweat over Windows designs, is an important indicator that MS could be much more bold in this area. E.g. add significant amounts of 3D elements to the Windows UI, and wow users. Adding innovative foundation OS technologies to Windows is great; however, it is also important to allow designers to make significant UI innovations - because the latter is the gauge the overwhelming majority of users and reviewers use to determine the progress of Windows.
