The Above is all well and good but ...
... MS appears to be shooting itself in the foot as far as its OS business goes. While it is a great idea to give customers what they want, MS is helping to erode mindshare about the efficacy of desktop applications. E.g. I have not seen MS pursue the development of desktop analogs to web sites (e.g. MSN) that make people stop and say, "Wow, desktop applications are much better consumers of Internet data than browser applications!" MS appears to be simply going with the flow set by its competitors, rather than stemming the tide, by showing that desktop applications are far better than browser based apps - something that is being done on mobile platforms, and even on its own Surface platform. If MS wants to continue what it is now doing, that is fine. MS however shouldn't be surprised when a new round of assaults by its competitors (e.g. Linux and Apple) for OS market share, proves to be irreversible.
