And let's be clear here - the OSS/FOSS world isn't much different here. How many factions fight over one flavor of *N*X or other? How many factions fight over one browser or other?
How many factions fight over one or other desktop, shell, package manager etc.,?
The very nature of survival is that if you can puncture someone else's ball, then some of those customers will have to play with yours. Puncture enough balls and you're then in control of all ball games.
