Microsoft, Amazon take different paths to cloud caching

Velocity and CloudFront are totally different things: Although both Velocity and CloudFront may have the
word "caching" in their description, they are
completely different products for completely different
usage scenarios. CloudFront is a CDN, which is used
mostly for static "heavy" content that is distributed
geographically to be physically closer to users.

Velocity is a an application object cache that
operates on the server side for reducing the latency
of accessing state information in the database.
