Live services are quite handy but just the start I suspect
Making the desktop and web work together safely and securely is incredibly hard. Microsoft has moved away from its old practices of down to the metal programming and moved into the dot.net world and into the world of services called by applications. The graphics back end in Vista is a server. The same goes for communications, local and internet. These back end servers make it possible to create not only a safe computing environment but make it very easy to create safe web environments as well.
