It depends...
If you have a high churn rate, and don't mind putting in hacks to make it work, don't mind working out how to maintain the hacks etc then go for it.

If you are trying to get it stable and done, then the wiser thing to do is to design it to standards because standards tend to remain in place for a long time, and even when they move on there's deprecation usually built in. That and it's far far easier to maintain code/pages/sites that have (by being standards based) way way less hacks and kludge in them.
