Ummm, what's all this about "won't do XP"?
The requirements (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/ie/ie8/getitnow.mspx) include XP SP2 with 64MB RAM. Now, I wouldn't run XP on 64MB RAM, but that's the published minimum.
