How are you gauging 'reasonably priced'?
Apple doesn't sell their OSes in a real sense - they're basically recouping some of the development cost for upgrades. The OS is really a loss-leader to get you buy their hardware, which is generally more expensive than equivalent PC systems, even when you factor in the cost of Windows.

You can't buy MacOS X off the shelf and install it on anyone else's computer but Apple's for example, without going to hacks and homebrew drivers, which Apple doesn't support and thus costs them nothing.

Linux is free. It's essentially impossible to compete on a price basis with free, but again, Linux works because a lot of people are donating their time to create a product. If someone had to sit down and pay all these people for their work, Linux would be much, much more expensive.

Microsoft actually lives on the revenue of Windows and Office. That's their actual product. More than that, those two products fund a lot of research and a lot of other product development (like Visual Studio).

So is it gouging? Is it unreasonably priced? Well, in a freemarket system, 'fair' is what the market will bear... and since they have.. what - 92% of the market... I'd say the market considers Windows 'reasonably priced.'
