Picketing home gardens

I've had this argument with Anton Phildor for years. My customary response is that if paid professionals can't do better for their customers than the customers can do for themselves, they don't deserve to be professionals. And if the only way a business can survive is to prevent people from helping themselves and each other, then that business deserves to disappear.

Proprietary developers (and I am one) complaining about "unfair competition" from open source are like farmers and grocery store employees complaining about "unfair competition" from home gardeners, or restaurant employees complaining about "unfair competition" from home cooking (to include the unpaid swapping of recipes by housewives).
