Can you elaborate?
In what way has the software market weaken because of Microsoft unification?

If you're talking about some individual companies being blocked out by decisions by MS, then I'll agree with you. But, I think this is just businesses failing to adapt. One could make an arguement that because Apple bought NeXtStep (and Jobs, for thast matter), Apple's predatory purchasing pushed BeOs out of business. Companies need to adapt or die.

Microsoft, hopefully, is learning this. They were at the giving end before, now they're going to have to adapt to F/OSS software and Apple, or they'll die.

Personally, whatever the environment, I'd much rather have one rich environment, then a bunch of environments to deal with. Microsoft Technology pays the bills rather well for me.
