Look ahead?
His task for looking ahead has been greatly simplified.

He need not look within MSFT.

He should look outside - to Apple which has blazed
the trail for MSFT for 30 years.

There is a reason why MSFT searches for an iPod or an
iPhone killer. The reason is that MSFT has no
innovative juice. Its recent product offerings were
mostly robust failures (Vista, Spot, Xbox, Zune,
PlayForSure) or also rans (XP after everyone discovered
its security failures, most of its keyboards or mice,
WinMobile {anyone ever heard of a WinMobile Killer?})).

Since it stole the GUI from Apple decades ago, it has
produced copycats or failures.

Gates will be remembered like Ivar Kreuger, the
Swedish match monopolist - as an interesting
footnote. He will be overshadowed by true innovators
like Jobs, people who produced real substance, not
copycats or muscular failures.
