I hope MS has completely gotten over Yahoo!
I think even if MS could pick up Yahoo! for $20B, Yahoo! wouldn't be worth it. I think MS should completely forget about Yahoo!: it, among other things, is too distracting. As for MS' search effort, I think the company should simply functionally clone what Google does. I really like Google's approach to search. E.g. Google seems to conduct searches largely along the lines I indicated here. When it comes to addressing search queries written in the form of questions, Google appears to cleverly hook into several services such as answers.yahoo.com, and wiki.answers.com, and preferentially display top query results from these services, then results from its main algorithms. In other words Google seems to generally stay away from semantic search techniques, which appear to exist a lot in Live Search, and is the reason for Live Search?s sub-par results.

I hope MS changes its apparent semantic search course, for one similar to Google?s. I get annoyed when I see Live Search developers addressing superficial elements to their search service, when at its core, it is highly deficient. If MS believes semantic search is the future, then I believe it could follow dual courses, and place a check box on it search page for users to opt into that search technique. However, MS needs to shift to the general techniques used by Google, as its main approach to search, if it seriously wants to compete with Google in the area of search.
