My self-built XP system has an AMD Athlon 64 (single core). Installing SP3 the first time resulted in an un-bootable hard drive. Back up your data first! The disk was still readable though. Good thing I had an extra extra hard disk and was able to use Linux to recover my data.

Everything is fine after a fresh install. SP3 running now. Suggest other AMD users look for new cpu driver (microcode) at Windows Update before installing SP 3. I thought I had installed it, but I can't be sure. Make sure your chipset drivers are up-to-date too.

XP seems to be faster now!
