To save face Microsoft won't extend the deadline again?

Come on. With the consequence being hundreds of thousands of those eee PCs going out with Linux (not to mention WIBRAINs and EVERUNs) no exec in their right mind would allow XP in emerging markets only. They already have to support it through 2011 in emerging markets, so it really costs them nothing to keep selling it everywhere.

My personal opinion is they should rework XP into a streamlined OS for highly portable devices... the software equivalent of how Intel went back to the Pentium 3 after the P4 fiasco in order to evolve a better architecture.
