Because MS Learned with Vista
Microsoft learned a valuable lesson with Vista. They need a new, LOW RESOURCE OS, for the future of mobile platforms. Have embeded Windows on devices vs linux. The OLPC is the perfect excuse to develop this OS whit massive PR boost. Besides most of todays computing is done on Winboxes, and it is a hard to sell a computer that can't do windows, even though it is not necessary for anything. This is pure sales for OLPC, and PR for MS. They need this OS anyway.
