More like hostage - your doc in their format
So what happens to all your documents when you're evicted or don't re-sign your lease? All your documents are in an open format, and you can transfer them to any other office productivity product? What happens when MS terminates this lease program unilaterally because ... well, they just want to, and they have a history for this sort of thing. (As the people who licensed FairPlay when they pulled its plug and went to Zune.) And, one of the problems with renting is you're often priced out of where you live after your lease expires and your rent increases dramatically. Will you be held hostage by proprietary document formats, or is MS using open document formats?
