Pirillo's screenshot is messy because he changed the default UI
Chris Pirillo says "The (Vista) search tool is a mess". Well, look at his screenshot. It's not how Vista's search window looks by default, it looks like he purposefully cluttered it up:

1. He turned on the Folders pane on the left
2. He turned on the Preview pane on the right
3. He turend on the Advanced Search pane on the top, yet he doesn't use any of the advanced feautres
4. He resized the Details pane on the bottom so that it's two rows higher than it is by default
5. He turned on the status bar on the very bottom. It's off by default in Vista because it doesn't have much purpose in Vista anymore.

So no wonder it's a mess, he's gone and messed it up.
