Microsoft is own worst enemy
It's no wonder why Microsoft gets trounced so often by Apple when it comes to brand considering the fact that Microsoft can't decide on one. It makes sense why you see people migrate to Apple, everything feels like it belongs together while Microsoft scatters itself all over and never makes enough of a stand to stick behind a single brand. If Microsoft can't stick behind a single brand then how can they expect anyone else to?

This is one of those cases where having a megalomaniac like Jobs actually helps as he makes sure everything is consistent. He doesn't worry as much about making sure he can please everyone all of the time, he pretty much makes sure he is happy with it and if not it's off to the chopping block. Gates has turned from this Microsoft driving force to this cute, cuddly icon that more represents "nerd" than "unified Microsoft vision".

Ever watch "House"? Microsoft needs a Dr. Gregory House; perhaps crazy, perhaps a huge, arrogant ass but brilliant where it counts. After all how many wonders of the world can you name that were built by committee? Now think of all the amazing architecture and buildings and spaces that were built by tyrants, pharaohs, kings, monarchs, cult leaders and crazy people.
