Microsft's expasion suffers from being too big a company.
In a fairly recent meeting I attended with some MS folks the discussion of "what's next" came up. Things got kicked back and forth awhile and finally one of the folks suggested several ideas. A couple of which I thought had real potencial.

To my surprise they were shot down immediately because the target market wasn't large enough. The fellow that made the suggestions indicated he believed the market would be around half a million users, to which everyone said, not a big enough market to invest the time into.

Thing is, I know software developers (and small companies) that would kill to have a half million end users. Go figure...
