Frankly, I think it's safer to say that AMD has the
backing of ATI, considering how much they were hurt by
the Core 2 and never recovered.

Maybe not, but nVidia's response was to go into
scientific computing, which often demands heavy
horsepower. I don't think they're hurting as much as
you may think.

nVidia has pushed hard for massively parallel systems,
and I don't think they're really ready to give that
up.
