Yes. They made it much worse.
There were early driver problems, many devices NEVER got updated for Vista, the fit and finish was and is rough, the extra security was a nag (but should have been DEFENDED and EXPLAINED by the tech pros, instead of being ridiculed), business was right to wait (why bother when XP was working and Vista was a compatibility ?) but the so called 'slowness' of Vista was never actually proved and, as I recall, you and others demosnstrated that Vista was more or less on a par with XP in terms of speed.

Yet so many keep repeating this mantra even now and prefer not to examine if it is really true because they have already staked their blogging reputation on Vista's sucking and this slowness thing is their last figleaf.

Vista was OK, not great, but it works fine now. Most anyone will admit this, privately.

Why did this happen? Echo chamber, Mac lovers, Mac ads, the relative Apple centricity of people like Mossberg and Pogue and the valley-centric Apple homeboys still nursing their M$ hate, the XP addiction and entrenchment, and the actual early problmes which were very real - it was a perfect freaking storm - now it is time for the people who know better to fess up and admit that Vista is fine, now. Pogue should do this, it might salvage his reputation - dude is just an Apple apologist and fanboy of the worst kind and he's the lead tech writer for the NYT!

Oh, and the 7 love is obvioulsy an over-reaction as the echo chamber has simply swung the other way. Vista is 7, it's the early version of 7 that paved the way for a new driver and security model we badly NEEDED)

Far too many are simply repeating what they hear! I know for a fact many were trash talking Vista who never even TRIED it, or at best took a quick and jaundiced look at it early on with immature drivers, old machines, etc.

If enough people are saying it it MUST be true, right? Well, I think we are learning that strange as it is the internet sometimes fosters exactly the opposite.
