Not surprised.
Over the last couple of years both HP's and Dell's quality control has virtually fallen off of a cliff. Acer and Gateway never pretended to have any QC, so I guess they don't have any lower to fall.

For a new PC, I would only consider a Lenovo system, an Asus or a Sony Vaio. Add in Toshibas for the laptop market, and really that's about it. Everyone else has been cost cutting by using bottom of the barrel components.

I'm not an Apple fan boy, but you could also get a Mac, I guess. Say what you want, Apple isn't perfect, but they don't chintz on the components.
