RE: Remote control overload
I feel the same way! We have a lot of electronic devices and have tried pretty much everything. We got a nice "touch screen" type of universal remote once which was sort of nice but as you stated many of the features of the previous remotes were unavailable since the touch screen buttons were "hard coded" into the remote and there was no way to create your own custom buttons.

I was thinking it would be really great to expand on the touch screen remote concept by creating a touch screen PDA style remote with an operating system. You could download "modules" from the manufacturers of your devices to the remote with no loss of functionality. It would be cool to be able to switch remotes by using an iPhone type of finger swipe and you could program and name your own touch screen buttons.

For example our touch screen remote had an option to turn on several different devices in a certain sequence by pressing one button so you could turn on your DVD player, surround sound receiver and TV in one swipe. So it would be nice for the remote to be able to do that. It was always a nice feature that I enjoyed but we've since gotten rid of the remote because the buttons were a bit difficult for my dad to handle and the loss of certain features (a problem with all universal remotes) WAS quite annoying.
