I have a device
that is still using a serial connection! I finally found a quality serial to USB converter... but I am waiting for it to get here before I pass verdict on it's reliability.

Still have two applications that are Windows only... makes it difficult since I have to maintain two systems when I only need the one Linux system.

Microsoft Access is notorious for breaking things you build during updates to the OS. Which is why I have moved to RealBASIC and SQLite as a replacement.

Hardware wise I have a SATA DVD RW that will read some discs and not others as well...

The big thing I find is that there is no uniform way to interconnect applications or I should say, share data between them. Microsoft has tried to do this but their methods are designed to lock you into a 100% Microsoft solution, and for folks like myself that is unacceptable.

Bottom line is a lot of the disparity and issues with see are designed in. It's how they (the corporations that drive this stuff) keep us on the perpetual upgrade treadmill. A little carrot here and there with a whole lotta stick in between.

For the most part though, thanks to the many awesome folks that have made it possible, I have been able to get the greater majority of my tech issues resolved with Open Source, Open Standards and Open Protocols.

And the more skills I accrue the closer I get to ending a lot of these tech headaches. I have often said that with all these new technology wonders our lives have not gotten easier and we are literally no more productive than before. Why? To many distractions in the form of innocuous information searching, wasted time on the cell phone talking about things of no real consequence (you have heard the conversations I am referring too... you know what I mean), wasted time searching for that document or that photo... wasted time waiting for a reboot (Windows camp...) wasted time fixing something that shouldn't be broke in the first place (Windows camp... again.)

Bottom line... no matter how you slice it, you're screwed when it comes to reliability, true interoperability and function. devil
