Business decision vs. digital freedom
It was a good business decision for the reasons you stated.

However, I think we must be careful not to allow content providers to dictate hardware features and therefore limit innovation. I realize, of course, this is already happening and I think it is a dangerous road to travel.

Ultimately, the RIAA, Hollywood, and now it seems publishers, would like a world where no content is ever purchased, only licensed for a limited use. Music only on your player, not on your home stereo, movies only on either your TV or your computer, not both, etc.

Every time a decision like this is made we enter new territory. I think we need to be wary of always making an expedient business decision without considering the consequences of these decisions.
