Was the person who dropped the Kindle able to replace the content at no, or very little charge? That'd be a central decision point for me, as I tend to be hard on portable devices.

As long as DRM is used it matters very little to me, but I am curious. Having to repurchase all your material after an accident or theft would be unacceptable.
