cost to save pennies
People are all so bothered about paying for electricity costs...but they will go and plop down hundreds of gadgets that presume to help them curb such costs....well, do the math folks...
with the average cost/kilowatt in the US, being 10 cents (http://www.eia.doe.gov/cneaf/electricity/epm/table5_6_a.html)
it doesn't take a genius to figure out what these gadgets are going to cost you in terms of days of use. For instance, that kill-o-watt product for $100. If you purchase this with the expectation of reducing your costs, you have already spent 125 days of useage (at 8 hours per day) and 10 cents per kilowatt hour just to buy the darn thing! Thinking about this from a 100 watt light bulb, 10 light bulbs burning for an hour equals 1 kilowatt/hour! A computer with a 300 watt powersupply can run for over 3 hours to equal one kilowatt/hour!
So, you can really save money by being smart! Take that fridge in your garage and move it to the basement so that in the summer-time, you aren't cooling your food in a hot garage!
Do full loads of laundry and wash dishes only when the machine is full! Obviously switch to CFLs and put timers on out-door lights...this is simple common sense folks.
