Reasons that Vista bothers me...
1) I have now spent over 4 hours trying to get SP1 installed on a new box.... the BSOD's are blurry (kind of funny huh?) The same box, XP installed with less heart ache and fewer issues... while I am bitching about Vista, why in the world does it take so freaking long to install SP1? In any OS but Windows, biggish updates/upgrades take no way near as long as Vista SP1 does... what gives? Under BSD,Linux updating the kernel, X or desktop environment is no way nearly as painful as compared to SP1 for Vista.. people complain about Linux's user friendliness, but the updating process for a Linux box is much, much less painful....

2) as your article comments: no new nice features to really make one want Vista... DX10 has nice things to program with, but these are also exposed in nVidia 's OpenGL driver (ext_gpu_shader4), Ironically, when the GeForce 8 shipped in 2006, before Vista was out, the geometry shader functionality was already exposed in nVidia drivers under the OpenGL API is Windows, BSD and Linux (I think Solaris too, but not too sure on that one). Also exposed was just about all DX10 features: texture arrays, native integer support in shaders, integer render targets...

oh well, now to see if my other box has gotten SP1 installed under SafeMode (as normal mode blue screens when trying to install SP1.. my bet is that it will uninstall SP1 and thus waste another hour or 2)

to add insult to injury, probably in a few months all Vista updates will require SP1 installed, which will leave me in a bind, as it looks like SP1 install will fail again...
