This would put a hurting on Sony
Considering the PS3 has cost Sony billions in losses (that it is still hoping to make up for in software sales) this would put them in a bind. MS can afford to drop the price since they are already breaking even or making a small profit on each Xbox360 sold where Sony is still taking a loss. Sony will almost assuredly have to follow suit.

Disclosure: I own both an Xbox360 Elite and a PS3. My playtime breakdown is about 90%-10% in favor of the 360. I never play the PS3 online as it is years behind the 360 in this arena.
